Interior design advice: Wardrobes

It is said that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. If that’s the case then the way to a woman’s heart is through a really great wardrobe :) This famous area where we store both clothes and the odd skeleton or two exists in many guises, but not everyone is able to make an entire room into a walk-in closet ala Hollowood wives. So, if you’re not a Hollywood wife, you’ll have to make the best of the storage space you have in your house.

Here is some advice…

If you have a small living space, material can be a solution, and a heavy material connected to the ceiling works best. The good thing about material is that you can wash it and change it easily if you get tired of the colour. You can also match the walls with similar fabrics, which gives a feeling of luxury :)

A smart albeit more expensive variation are sliding doors: they look great and take very little space. There are also beds with storage underneath at Ikea – an excellent solution if you live in a studio apartment. Ikea also have their legendary book case “Billy”, which can easily be changed into a practical shelf for shoes. Just hook up with Billy and hey presto, new and fresh shoe wardrobe ala glamour :)

One final personal piece of advice from me is…CLEAN out all the old. You will never use that dress at the back that you bought in 2005 (even if you think you might :) Cleaning out old clothes is cleansing for the soul – a real Spring feng shui. Out with the old skeletons and in with the things you really use and need. There are lots of options when it comes to wardrobes. It’s just a matter of finding your personal favourite :)

Which one is yours?

Within interior design, I love the combination of old and new, a marriage of history and modernism, romanticism meeting minimalism. In addition, I have a burning passion for crispy silks, dark chocolate and long baths with a fragrance of lavender.

  1. Fina bilder, själv har jag tagit bort tråkiga garderobsdörrar och hängt gott om draperier istället,, enkelt att byta färg när man vill.
    Kram

  2. I agree with getting rid of old stuff. I generally do one big clean out every year. If it’s too faded or if I no longer like it, or it’s out of style…it’s a gonner! The great thing is that my friends usually love what I no longer love and vice versa! And it’s true…I get to my man’s heart through making food and he always touches mine when he surprises me with new clothes ;)

  3. I am really good at cleaning out my (small) walk-in closet, too good sometimes, since fashion comes back:) But you are right, it is not that likely to use the dress you never use…and as you said,it feels good and one should not underestimate feng shui! It works!

  4. I love all those images! I do think that knowing when to get rid of stuff is key to optimize space. Also the energy flows much better.

    Bisous!

  5. I usually do a purge clean out and when I buy something later get rid of 1 item that I don’t use. I love these beautiful closets and agree you can achieve good organisation with simple fixes. xo :-)
