Rustic Swedish Summer cottage gets new lease of life

Summer has finally come to Sweden, and many people are dreaming of a cosy rustic Summer cottage to escape to.

The typical red Swedish cottage is loved by Swedes and tourists alike, and is a real icon of this country. In the multicultural society we have here thesedays, we need something genuinely Swedish to hold on to – something that brings us back to the true essence of Sweden and how things used to be.

I grew up in the country and long for the Summers there every year :)

Rustic decor and Summer house

This wonderful Summer cottage with classical rustic decor is located on the island of Yxlan, which is part of Stockholms archepaelago. The house used to be a shoe maker’s workshop. The house was in need of renovation when the current owners purchased it, and it’s now been turned into an island dream.

Certain things however were not modernize, such as the low ceilings in some of the rooms. So, tall people have to take it easy and not jump unnecessarily. The decor is classic rust and many details give an old-fashioned feeling to the house. Basically, this is an old house that has died and been reborn but not lost its true soul.

How would you like to spend your ideal Summer? Country style house or in the city?
