Re-paint an antique bedside table: shopping list

Fine sandpaper, cleaning agent, base coat, small and large brush, water-based paint

Re-paint an antique bedside table: how to

1. Preparation, preparation, preparation
Sand down the bedside table thoroughly using fine sandpaper. If it’s unpainted, check to see if it has any knots and apply a coat of knotting solution if necessary.

2. Clean and prime
Prepare the surface for painting with a cleaning agent such as white spirit. Use a lint-free cloth to dry the table and remove any dust. Give the bedside table a coat of primer. This will make it much easier to apply the top coat.

3. Apply top coat
Paint the surfaces of the table with acrylic paint. This dries quicker and has less odour than oil-based paints. Apply two coats, letting the first dry before applying the second. Use a large brush for the main surfaces and a smaller one for finer details.

VOILA! Your old antique bargain has finally had a much-deserved make-over. It’s amazing what a little paint can do. Now you can be proud of your antique bedside table and show it off when friends come over :)

What are your thoughts aobout renovated antique tables – hotttt or not?

Have a FAB weekend cuties :)

Love this idea! Last summer, I tried to find a headboard at a garage sale, so I could refinish it, but I’m tentative as to whether my DIY project would work. I generally get frustrated and give up on a large project like a furniture piece; I barely made it through window boxes two summers ago! But maybe I’ll give it a go this year: nothing ventured, nothing gained!
