When it comes to accommodation, Sweden is definitely spoiled for choice with beautiful old houses. In this post, I’m going to present an amazingly beautiful 19th Century apartment from Östermalm in Sweden’s capital, Stockholm.
Wide open spaces, beautiful rounded windows and herring-bone floors are all hallmarks of classic Swedish 19th Century apartments. We Swedes like a spartan, clean style of home decor and have become known for this abroad. Here are some simple ideas to help you get that sought-after Scandinavian 19th Century style at home:
Get the style: 19th Century Swedish living
1. Light foundation colours
Walls and ceiling should be painted in clean, light and slightly toned white shades. This makes it easier to choose accent colours for finer details and gives an airy and clean feeling.
2. Modern details
Using modern, stylish details such as a hot lamp or Danish designer chair can make a good-looking 19th Century apartment great. Quotation posters are HOT in Sweden right now and especially those by the famous artist, Marie Sernerholt.
3. Chandeleirs
Are the cherry on the top and suit all types of home decor. Like the queen of home decor details, she presides over everything she sees with her crystal light :)
4. Mix old and new
This is my motto which I always go on about on my blog. An old apartment needs to have some personal touches and history, so mix old and new decor.
5. Large, light and modern kitchen, an old, open fireplace
Two must-haves in a 19th century Swedish apartment. An old beautiful ceramic tile fireplace works well in a living room or bedroom. A large kitchen in white, country style is typically Swedish. Warm woods for kitchen counter tops completes the look.
The old classic furniture mixes perfectly with the modern bed decor :)
Quite simply, the rules for 19th Century Swedish home decor style are: keep it simple, light, airy, and focus on the right details :)
Have a great day, cuties!

Hi Maria! What a beautiful apt! Love the 19th Century style: the wide spaces, the light and the details are simply mesmerizing! The kitchen is my fav room, so cosy!:) Kisses and hugs dear! xo
Love this house, it is just so gorgeous! I really like white walls, white floors and then splashes of colour but I’d just worry about having to keep it clean! xxx
