Everyone that loves to grab an antique furniture bargain, raise your hand!
As an amateur however, it can however be difficult finding the ultimate vintage bargain without being duped. Antique dealers can be pushy, charming, and convincing. That’s why I’ve put together a little checklist of thing to look for before your buy your antique dream furniture… enjoy! :)
1. Is it true?
Does the seller know what they’re talking about? If something smells fishy… ask for PROOF. Nobody should have to go home and discover that they’ve been ripped off.
2. Ask questions
Bombard the seller with as many questions about the item as possible. No question is too silly in this context. Having the title of Miss Inquisitive is spot on here :)
3. Inspect
Examine the furniture you want to buy CAREFULLY – there is absolutely no shame in thoroughly inspecting an antique piece of furniture before you decide on a possible purchase. The seller will obviously convince you that any nicks and cracks are not visible at all… But don’t feel pressure. If you do not want a crack in that glass table… just walk away.
4. Compare
If you see, for example, an antique piece of furniture at a garage sale for one price, while an antique store online has a similar piece of furniture for half the price, consider the following. There might be a good reason for the price difference…
5. Most important of all…
NEVER buy a piece of furniture if you are unsure, or feel pressured by the seller. Listen to your heart when it comes to antiques. Remember that you will be living with this piece of furniture for many years. Selecting a vintage dream piece of furniture is a bit like choosing a partner: only the very best is good enough :)
These were my purchasing tips that I hope will help you find the perfect antique for your home. Now it’s just a matter of getting out to antique dealers and flea markets… good luck! :)
Have a great day, cuties! :)
